Wow. I didn't realize how many people actually had a problem with the other board. Nice to have somewhere else to go. So many of the same people too. This is excellent. I assume we're not going to have to put up with the same poop that we had to deal with over there?

Well...some poop. Ya can't let the posters run wild, but no f'ing publishers pimping their premium content and ruining the baseball side of FanHome.

This place has legs....
It's not just new posters at Scout that have a problem with how things are being run. It's the long time members (2+ years) as well. People who never get in scraps with mods/or ITD.
Relative to many on this board I'm fairly new to this circle (3 years) but I think there are a lot of unhappiness.... Hell the game thread over here is already far busier than the one at Scout!..
Vive la Revolution!

Congratulations, gojays. (And good to see you again.)
Kris would be a good addition here, yes. How about Gribble? Has someone extended an invite?
A question -- is there a moderator on this board? Because if it's going to be open ground for questionable language -- which I'm already seeing on this board -- I don't imagine I'll stick around. This will be far, far worse than scout.com if it becomes a free-for-all.

Well, what do you know. I wondered what happened to you ... I thought you'd just jumped to another site. I never connected you to robinhoodrules.

People aren't unreasonable and usually aren't jerks. It's all in how you approach the issue. (Which is one of the biggest flaws they have at Scout right now)

85Jays -- it's not going to become a free-for-all, I'm pretty certain of that.
Even when language comes up - as long as it's not used in the attacking sense or with malicious intent I don't think it's that bad... but that's me. I got tired of the childish censors on some of the other sites but when you have a large poster population -- you do need to have restrictions.
When it's a small but intellegent community, however, I think people know when to censor themselves.
ANYWAY -- this is supposed to be an introduction thread and I guess I'm not going to endear myself to you guys by suggesting I'm liberal in language -- especially when I tell you I used to be Administrative Community Manager of FanHome.com (before Scout/The Insiders).
Yup... For you old timers, this is the guy who was running the show most of the time while Kevin was focusing on School and god-knows-what during 2001-2002. I resigned soon after the EZBoards switch because I knew it would be a disaster (well, that and I was busy in my personal life).

I will apologize in advance for any of my language. I'm not going to go insane with it, but I will use some profanity, that's just how I am. If it becomes a problem, which with this group I don't forsee it being, then I can certainly change, I had to do it enough over on scout. Just as long as it doesn't get as bad here as it is there.

Glad you're enjoying it Captain
If there is enough interest, we could do a weekly Ynot. 10 Questions that run from Monday to Sunday. Thoughts?
I don't think anybody else did either. LOL

I am all for another YNOT. I stopped doing it on scout because I got sick of that board. Robb99 did a great job running those YNOT's.

When it's a small but intellegent community, however, I think people know when to censor themselves. If not I can add a profanity filter. And I'm thinking about adding it anyways. Not because of the Jays board, but because of other posters that might not be able to control themselves. On this board I can choose what appears when you type something that trips the filter. sh!t could be poop or whatever Or we could come up with a policy that everyone thinks is fair, such as I install the profanity filters (posters can suggest the replacement swears) and we allow only the first letter of a swear with the rest starred out...like F***** You guys decide, someone post a thread on the Help board, as opposed to discussing it here...since it's a sitewide issue. You know how to find the Help board, right?

I do appreciate the invite, but I can't say I'm in favour of completely leaving scout.com. I guess it's the soldier in me that says stick it out, along with the fact I've been posting there for years. I post on the Leafs and Raptors boards as well, so I won't be leaving the network itself either way. Regardless, all the best in your endeavours of getting this place going!

I saw the other thread, and I'm starting to realize why so many of you are here. I might have to take back parts of my previous post in this thread.

Personally, I'd like to see a profanity filter. Not one like was employed at scout.com that censored words like "idiot" and "damn". Just one that censors out the Naughty Naughties. F*$#, sh*%, cu@#, and the like. Even if they're not directed at someone, they're still offensive. Some may not see it as a big deal, but conversations degrade when people start throwing profanity into things.

I agree with 85Jays... those words should be filtered.

On another board I go to, which has a similar layout to this (Test will know what I'm referring to), they censor the word "whore", and the censor automatically replaces the word with "Bob Saget" when its posted. It's a creative way to use the censor and make it tongue in cheek at the same time. If this board has that same capability, I say we have some fun with it and replace the "curse" words with something we all find at least moderately entertaining. Like if someone writes the word "member", it can be replaced by "ITD" when posted. Well, you get the idea.

Yes, its me, I got axed at the other board early for hating JP, and calling out mods to simply do their jobs. Guess I was ahead of my time. There were other incidents that got blown out of proportion, but if they don't bring it up, I wont present the truth, and we will let the past be passed.

No, those weren't the reasons you were banned, and if you'd like I could go into those reasons. (At the time, you responded to my messages by saying "I deleted it" everytime I gave the reasons for your ban.) Personally ... I don't give a damn anymore, as I'm not a moderator here or anywhere and never will be, and I'd just as soon leave the past in the past. But if you want to claim one thing as the "reason" for your ban, and it's not the right thing, well, I'll counter that.

Hi everyone, its me, MapleLeafBlueJayBoy or Mike if you'd rather. I tried to use my Fanhome name here but it would not fit which is a shame. So, I've short formed it. It is great to be here and even better to see so many faces from the Fanhome board. All the best parts of the Fanhome Jays board are here. Finally we are free to speak our minds and have some excellent conversations without looking over our shoulders. I think this is going to be a lot of fun and I can hardly wait to get started. Its a shame what happened on Fanhome because it used to be my favorite spot to post at no to mention a lot of fun. I'm still on the Leafs/Raptors/Wrasslin board but I'm no longer posting on the Jays board. It is funny to see what it has been reduced to now, quite pathetic really. Kris/WillRain are going to pull there hair out. Anyway my friends, I'm on vacation now so you probably won't see much of me until next week sometime but I just wanted to pop in and say hello. ;D

Ha Ha Ha all right everyone, I took a look at my name in the post above and couldn't handle it. I'm so used to my normal name that I've created a new account even though I can't post the final letter to make my name complete. Oh well, close enough in my books. Now the world makes sense again.

Right on. Same alias as old fanhome, then scount, and now this. How inventive!!!
One knock to the current layout (or it's my illeteracy with forum software) is that the nevigation between page is rather unsual (pull-down menu), and the number of posts of page can't be changed.
Nice to get a fresh start over here though. Thanks 85 for the invite

Just finished catching up with the thread. I agreed with some of you here that profanity filter should be added. I have been to uncensored board and never found interest in them because of the constant swear words (trust me, it'll be abused eventually if swear words are allowed). Just not those overly strict filters over at scout would be fine.
