How can we have a renewed fanhome bbq and not have one of these.
Interestingly while the administration continues to see this primarily in terms of a conflict with Islamic fundamentalist, experts see it now as a conflict between Shittes and Sunnis. The real danger in Iraq is that it will ignite into a religious war between the two that brings in Sunni and Shia states generally. Already according to the CSM Iran intelligence has organized the Shia regions for a forseen conflict with Sunnis and possibly with us.
One of the many ironies of this war is that we have essentially given control of the country to politicians closely tied to Iran.

In practice we already have. Iraq is as much a Western style democracy as the old Soviet era republics were. In name only. Its interesting that Bush considers Lebanon a democracy, but supports signficant attacks against it by Israel. Many killed in Lebanon were not insurgents and the economic damage done was considerable in an already poor country. news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060819/pl_nm/bush_dc

Iraq is just Turkey and Iran's plan to overtake it, With Shiite Iraq joining Iran, Sunni Iraq handed over to Turkey. Just watch how the U.S will take Iraq's oil fields for themselves and then sell off the rest of Iraq to pay for some U.S debt/war. Call me crazy if you want, but look at it carefully.

I honestly don't think, as someone who has never said anything good about Bush on foreign policy ever, that the war has much to do with oil. The danger of a Sunni-Shiite war in the ME is a very real one.

Which reminds one of a Vietnam era commentary. "How to win the war in Vietnam" 1) Put all the good Vietnamese on junks in the South China Sea 2)Nuke Vietnam down to the bedrock. 3)Sink the junks. The US effort in Iraq resembles the "One War" efforts that were the final stage of the US initiaives in Vietnam - the replacement of US forces with Vietnamese troops (now Iraqis). The problems are pretty much identical as well. I wonder if anyone in the Rumsfeld Pentagon studies that initiative. www.nytimes.com/2006/08/20/magazine/20iraq.html?ref=world
