I have a Dell Computer the thing has worked great for almost 2 years now with one exception. Every now and then it shuts down due to a Thermal Event. Is this anything to worry about? What can be done to fix this? Like I said it only does this every once in a while. It takes it about 10 minutes before the computer will work again after the "Thermal Event." Any help appreciated.

You need to make sure that all of your fans are functioning properly. This includes the power supply fan, the CPU fan, the video card fan (if there is one) and the external fan.
The constant heating and cooling of the CPU can cause 'chip creep', which is where the CPU itself expands and contracts enough times to the point where it doesn't fit properly on the motherboard and does not function properly.

Yep, something's definitely getting to hot for the computer's liking.
You might squeeze a few more months out of a fan by getting compressed air and blowing it clean, but ideally, you just replace the thing and be done with the problem, as NE suggests.

It ha sbeen doing this since early this year it has just been worst the last three days. It does it in the mornings right after it has been turned on. Leave the thing off for about 10 to 20 minutes it runs fine the rest of the day.

Likely the CPU fan. That fan is operating at full speed ahead during the startup sequence.
Replace it.

you can check out some prices at newegg.com. I saw a couple there for around 20-30 dollars, some may be cheaper.

Be careful though.... sometimes the cheapest one is a sleeve bearing fan. They last about six months... give or take... Pay the extra for a BALL bearing fan. You'll be glad you did.

I may just wait it runs fine most of the time anyway. I can't really afford to get a fan unless it is absolutely needed. Going back to college in a week and a half need all my money for gas.

Went to the site, the warranty is out of date. Is there a way to send an email to a dell technician?

I do not know if it would have or not cause it is hard to tell how many steps I would have to go through. I would just rather email a person and tell them what is going on with the machine.
