8/12 ECW House Show
Elmira, NY
By Jim Bennett
In the opener, Balls Mahoney beat Rene Dupree with the Nutcracker Suite. Alot of "Balls" chants, mostly during his Dusty punch sequences.
Neikirk and O'Reilly beat the FBI. Guido was the only guy in this match anyone knew, or cared about. I really wonder how these new guys are going to look on TV because they showed absolutely nothing in the ring. Finish came when Guido and I think O'Reilly got tangled up on the outside, while Neikirk caught Mamaluke with a side slam, swinging backbreaker combo.
Kevin Thorn ( with Ariel ) defeated Danny Doring. Not much here of note except for the 4 guys sitting beahind be who kept chanting "The power of christ compels you" ( they obviously have been reading up) Thorn kept acting as if it was bothering him. Thorn wins with his top rope neckdrop.
Next up was the best body contest between Francine and Kelly K. Kelly. Vew people seemed to recognize Francine seeing she hasnt played any kind of role on the new show yet. Kelly wins, followed by a teased stripping which led to Mike Knox coming out. This led to chants of "Same old sh*t"
Knox's actions led to Sandman coming out, who got the biggest reaction of the night. After about 90 seconds of brawling Test jumped in for a 2 on 1. This lead to Tommy Dreamer running down and setting up a tag match.
Good reaction for Sandman and Dreamer, and people were really riding Test. Really not much in this match to note other than at one point it appeared Sandman hurt his arm pulling back after a punch on Test. He told the referee "I hurt my arm" and you could tell he was really hurting. But it appeared he just hit his funny bone on the turnbuckle aseembly, because after about 3 mins of working it out he felt better. Dreamer and Sandman win with the White Russian legsweep, sans cane. Nothing "Extreme" about this match at all!
After intermission a "We want Punk" chant broke out, and we were given CM punk versus Stevie Richards. Funny moment of the night, a fan stood up and asked CM punk, "Who are you?" Punk said "I dont know, who am I?" The crowd proceeded to let the fan know who he was with a good chant for Punk. SO much stalling in this match by Richards it was ridiculous. At this point the frustration in the crowd at seeing nothing athletic in 5 matches drew boos and "Boring" chants. When Punk was on offense he looked focused and intense but there was just not enough offense given to these guys to do anything. Punk won with the Uranage into the Anaconda Vice.
Next match was RVD vs Kurt Angle. Originally these 2 were booked in a 3 way main event against the Big Show, but that was obviously changed. Good reaction for both guys, but again, the match itself was virtually nothing. RVD was off, blowing a few spots that looked really bad. RVD missed a frog splash which allowed Angle to slap on the ankle lock for the win.
Main event saw Sabu go against the Big Show. This match was finally announced as being held under "extreme" rules. Good pop for Sabu. Offense was basically Sabu hitting Big Show over the back with a chair a few times, then setting up a table in the corner. He did a chair jumnp bulldog to show onto the table which was really weak, considering we could see the table was already broken in spots. Finish came when Sabu tried to do the chair jump DDT through another table but show caught him for a choke slam through the table.
After the match it got interesting though. Immediately after the match, Big Show started yelling to some fans that if they thought they could do better to come get into the ring. I thought he was just playing the heel, until he jumped out of the ring, came up against the barricade and was SCREAMING at some guys behind us to come up to him if they were so tough. He tried to reach out and grab them but they were too far away. He looked legitamately pissed off. Then he went down a little bit to another fan who was giving him hell, and blew a HUGE snotrocket all over the guy. The fan became infuriated and spit on the Big Show. Security immediately came over and removed the fan, but who can blame him for what he did? It was the most unprofessional thing I have ever seen. I know these guys get it good from fans sometimes but his actions were totally uncalled for, and he should be disciplined in some way.
That was the only interesting thing on this show, though. If this is what Vince is trolling out there and calling it ECW, then they should not even be doing house shows. This was the worst show I have seen in 20+ years of attending WWE shows. Flat out, there was just absolutely NO athleticism but on display at all, and there was nothing "Extreme" about this at all.
If youre reading this, I suggest you do not go see this crap until some changes are made, oh wait they wont be. Save your money.
