Does anyone out there think the Jackets will give up on signing Zherdev? It sucks he signed with a Russian team, hopefully Doug McClean can work something out to keep Z in Columbus.

IDK. It would've been great if the Jackets would've been able to sign him... There are ways to get around the transfer rules though.

Well as of right now if he signs with the Jackets before October his Russian cnotract is voided. If not we lose him for a year which would hurt this team big time.

What's the story with the guy? I've heard he has tons and tons of talent but then I hear everyone is really over pushing the guy. Is he for real?

Last year after being benched in the middle of a game for hot dogging too much. Zherdev became a more complete player and led the team in scoring up until he got injured late in the season. I think he had 56 points in only his second year not to bad. Here is the latest from rotoworld.com....I just hope for all Columbus fans that we get him signed before october.

Got to looking at his stats, he had 27 goals and 27 assists in 73 games not to bad considering he plays for the Bluejackets. I think he and moreso Rick Nash get overlooked by people because of the team they are on.

Not too shabbby. Although I don't blame the team for only wanting a 1 or 2 year deal. You want to see how he pans out. That kind of deal has worked for both the player and the team in the past.
I hope we see him stick it out with Columbus!

It definitely would be a loss in Columbus to see Zherdev leave.

damn shame if the Jackets can't get a deal done...he's a joy to watch... the knock against him from what I've read is that he and Svitov have ZERO work ethic. When you have a horse like Nash who will do it all on and OFF the ice to succeed, that's gotta be rough in the locker room to have flash and no substance beyond it in comparison... I watch more Jackets games than I'd care to admit to..

It's not necessarily bad news, Mac is the one who gave the week's time, so right now it's up to Z and his agent to accept the deal. I'm confident that it will get done...

Well from reading I can not figure out why he will only accept a 1 year or 3 year deal and not a 2 year deal.

I was thinking it might have to do with his FA status some how?
