Surely they would. The team has been floating trial balloons about a new arena for over a year now, and the city very quickly said they werent helping. Likewise, both the provincial and federal governenments have been harshly criticized for supporting pro sports teams in the past.
Governmental support is not a possibility. Even for what the Flames (and Oilers, who are also looking at a new facility) mean to the province, all levels of government have far, far more critical needs to spend infrastructure money on.

There could be some funding for upgrades if it can be demonstrated it helps the city which ultimately is the Saddledome's owner. But even then there would be opposition... Corporate sponsorhip is more likely a source for funding. But imagine the City stuck with the Saddledome & no major tenant.

Well for one, the Flames owners have the cash to build new. No help is needed, they would like some but.....when they control 100% parking, ect... I doubt they would even bother asking. Short term hit, long term $$$$$
They owners usually have a long term plan in thinking, as well all post about should they build or not.....they already have an answer and maybe since the city (calgary) has reached the million mark maybe it's time to look at adding another tenant.... B-Ball anyone? When they tired the basketball here a few years ago, Calgary was the only team in that crappy league that made money, and held a pretty good support in tix sales...
Vancouver failed cause they marketed the NBA to the wrong audience.
Honestly IMO build new and go hard.
25000 seat arena with double the boxes that push it to around the 30 k mark. Then build a new hotel right beside it, add a casino..... make it the Flagship of the NHL

I just bought another house, i'll be moving again in about a year (has to be built), but this is the 3rd time...all because i don't want him to get a bead on where i live... plus he'll steal my grasshopper glasses again.

Are you soaking people for your old houses? nope, i bought the first one just before the market went nuts....LOL so i'm selling it for almost double what i paid and buying a 2200sq house with a huge attached garage and my morgage will stay the same as this house i'm in...LOL if this market stays hot i'll be doing it again in about 2 years...and end up with a 600k house with a morgage under 200k and it only cost me soem beers to get friends help move....

Then build a new hotel right beside it, add a casino..... make it the Flagship of the NHL 25,000 is way too big, not to mention being a technical nightmare to build. You cant build too big, becuase supply will almost always exceed demand. Ideally, you want what the Flames have right now: a reasonable number of fans wanting tickets over what is actually available. 18-19,000 is the right size. As for another tennant, there are already three. I doubt we could support a fourth. A minor league basketball team (and it would be minor) would be better off in the Max Bell or Corral, depending on the level. I cant think of any leagues that play close enough to Calgary to be workable.

I'd agree 25k is too ig--but I'd like to know what would happen to the Saddledome if the Flames build their own.
If they did I'm sure the Hitman would come along--and the Roughnecks--although they don't have a lot of home games in the NLL.

The Saddledome will likely be demolished. There is no need for two 20k facilities. Doubly so since hte Flames will want to ensure that the biggest events go to their building for the revenue.
Ideally, the Corral would be torn down, the new Dome built in its place, with the saddledome then torn down and that space used for new Stampede stuff. Somewhere during this process the Flames negotiate a deal with the Stampede that sees them gain some parking revenue. Likely by threatening to build their new arena off the grounds - ie Firepark.

Its the flames who are deeming it not up to par, not the city...... I do believe the Coral is slated to be updated and expanded, along with the round-up center..... IMO if the flames can own out right the saddledome, they would keep it and just retro the building, even if the city sells it to them for 10 mill it's still better than tearing down the dome for free. you sure don't sound like keith45 to me.......
