Marc Denis' career path was rolling along comfortably, already with a junior world championship gold medal and Memorial Cup final to go with his ring for helping Hershey win an American Hockey League title.
Then, when he was handed his first No. 1 professional job as a 20-year-old rookie, smoke came rising from the skid marks created as he learned his most valuable lesson. He hopes to carry that lesson with him into his first season as the No. 1 goalie for a team hoping to regain its championship glory.
Heading into his first professional season with the defending AHL-champion Hershey Bears in 1997-98, Denis was replacing playoff MVP J.F. Labbe as the Bears' starting goaltender.
