Ya but Emery has been here longer he should have more. I think a player should have to prove themselfs befor they can get payed alot.
Would you like it at work if you had been working at your job for lets say 5 years and this guy came in and took your job and got payed more then you and all of the sudden you wern't as important as you were a week ago?

Gerber has proven much more than Emery has. Just because you haven't heard about him doesn't mean hasn't proven himself in this league.

I'v heard of him but i just think he should have to prove himself on our team. Just because he worked good with his other team dosn't mean he isn't gunna be good with the guys on the Sens.
Different people get along different.

I'd say they're done, this is the team we'll see in October. I can't imagine a trade, but you never know.
I rather like the looks of this team on paper, can't wait to see them play. I predict the new d-men will be well liked.
With such big changes, the possibility of falling apart is always there, it's there for quite a few teams this year. I wasn't a big fan of this cap structure through all this turmoil, but I think the new look of teams each year is going to be my favourite part. Like a box of chocolates....

Different people get along different. Last season should Heatley have made less than Chris Neil? The cap hit will likely go down a bit once some of the guys on two-ways (I'm assuming) get sent down.

Different people get along different. Sure, but we can't bring him in and see how he works and then give him a big contract. Thats just not how the sports, nor the world work. He got the contract based on his career thus far and like any UFA they might not work out. Sergei Gonchar got a massive contract from Pittsburgh during his UFA year and played terrible for the Penguins (at least for the 1st half). Some would say he's not worth the money he's making now, but based on his career up till then thats what he rightfully demanded.

no you can't pay him after you find out how he does with the team. But you could pay him just a little money put his money in storage and give the appropriate amount to him at the end of the season.
Ya i know it'll never happen but it's an idea.

Gerber has already proven himself in the league. Yeah there's the chance he won't click with the team, but you have to take a risk. If Ottawa didn't offer the kind of money they did he would have went elsewhere (and there were other interested parties).

I predict the new d-men will be well liked. I don't think so. I think the fans are going to crap on them even if they are playing well. Ottawa doesn't have a history of being kind to its defencemen and especially skilled ones. They'll ignore the four or five great plays a guy made and focus on the one bad play. Look at Redden. He'll make five great but subtle plays but that one breakout pass that gets intercepted and he's crap to some fans. If they don't hit, they'll be labelled as soft and get treated like Sami Salo.

I agree on the Redden example, but Corvo is known for making blatantly stupid defensive decisions, at least thats how Kings fans have described him. I think that people will probably be very frustrated by Corvo.

Yeah, I expect you're right. We have seen this before haven't we. I dunno, I see the changes Muckler made to the defence as a couple of the best moves he's made to date. Fast, puck-moving D seems to me to be the way to go with the change to the rules.

i dont really agree with what you say about D treatment. yeah Redden got a bad rap but for every comment on giveaways or softnesss there were a hundred comments of praise and now he gets nothing but good press and credit.
Volchenkov and Meszaros havnt been dumped on. you could even argue that Volch's leash has had a bit of extra slack because of the odd bone crushing hit.
Rachunek, Laukannen, Salo, Traverse etc.. all deserved the treatment they received.

I agree with fisherking. Volchenkov gets a lot of slack on the boards in general considering his level of play. Same as Phillips, mind you some of that has to do with the "he'll pick it up in the playoffs" factor. Meszaros was given a lot of slack last year too and I consider him a skill guy.

Hey, all. I made it over! And I suspected that traffic was down a little bit on Scout... Thanks for the invite, Faraday. So, yeah. I'll predict that the crowd is going to be rough on our defence this year. I know that despite my own best efforts to remain neutral, I'm still a little cranky about the Corvo signing (purely over the contract size and length). I've never been sold on Redden's ability as even an on-ice leader, and he's a $6.5M man now. I already really miss Chara. There's a very different feel about the Sens this year, moreso than the difference I felt after the lockout and the Hossa trade. Who knows, it might do us some good. All I know is that whether I like it or not, we're committed to this 'new look' Sens team because Gerber and Corvo in particular will be unmoveable should they flop here with those contracts. I hope everything goes to Muckler's plan!
