No guarantees for Canes' title defense... Six players whose names will be engraved on the Cup are gone, five as free agents and one by trade. There are three new arrivals. Is that too much turnover? Not enough? In August, it's easy to be optimistic and hard to be certain. Of the past 20 teams to win the Stanley Cup, only one has missed the playoffs the next season, while a quarter have gone back to the finals and half have made it at least to the conference finals -- halfway to a repeat. ...

Good article ... and Luke does a nice job of giving what could be an overconfident fanbase a bit of a reality check. Repeating is tough, especially in a Cap environment. We should be focused on the team being competitive and let the chips fall where they may.

To be fair to the Hurricanes, though, is that Big Joe wasn't a very integral part of this amazing season. /snark
