I've been following the Jays since 1977. At the moment, I am in complete shock. I have had season tickets since 1977 and I have seen a minimum of 20 games each year. I can not believe Gibbons still has a job. I can not believe how this franchise, which was a model franchise under Beeston and Gillick, has fallen. I have a 8 year old son. He plays Baseball. We watched the Jays game together last night. I'm actually tired of this issue because it's such bs but I will end discussion with what my son told me as we watched the game. "Daddy, I really enjoyed playing for Rob (his coach) this year. I really liked him as a coach. I don't think I would enjoy playing for a coach who would want to fight with me if he didn't like me." What a joke.

Seriously, mookie. There's no problem with your posts. But starting thread after thread does aggravate people -- even people who agree with you. If you stick to the existing threads there are no problems.

I know it is hard for some people to keep perspective (much less understand the concept), but it must be kept in mind that the "bad guy" in these two incidents was Shea Hillenbrand and Ted Lilly. What each player did was completely unacceptable.
Now there is serious reason to question Gibbons' temper and ability to manage personalities. I understand that, and have been forced to wonder about his future with the team myself.
But isn't freaking out and overreacting like this exactly what you are upset at Gibbons for doing?

I just checked in today on this board and the scout board and you've posted the exact same 3 threads on both boards. Really great thanks for coming out. If this was an opinion I'd say you're entitled to it and let's discuss, but you've found a topic you hope to get strong reactions with and have decided to milk it for all it's worth. I'd ask you to stop, but that only makes you happy and fulfilled so welcome aboard. I can't wait to not read every other thread you start from now on.

I dont see whats wrong with this thread.
I too am in shock that Gibbons has not been fired.
axlsalinger, I disagree that both times the players were the only ones at fault. Gibbons challenged Shea to a fight. Luckily, Shea didnt fight him.
Last night, after Ted calmly walked to the tunnel, Gibbons tore off after him. Today Gibby has a lame excuse "I had to take a piss"
BS. Gibby went after Lilly. Totally unprofessional behaviour by a big league manager. Gibby is an adult. Adults are supposed to be able to control their emotions. Gibby is also the leader of this team. He should NEVER be challenging players to fights. He should deal with this in a professional manner.
So far Gibby is 0 for 2 in dealing with player problems in a professional manner.
He needs to go

The only problem is that I think it should be part of one of the existing threads, that's all. While I'm not settled on firing Gibbons based on this -- I don't believe we have all the information, and what happened in the tunnel to the clubhouse is crucial to that decision -- I don't DISagree with the notion of firing Gibbons. But I think it clutters the board if the same poster posts multiple threads saying essentially the same thing. I'm perfectly happy to see this or any poster rant all they want about Gibbons ... but if there's thread after thread, it's like the poster is taking over the board with their own agenda. There has to be a point when a poster has started too many threads on the same issue on the same day ... and I think three threads is taking it a bit far.

I didn't say they were the only ones at fault. I said that in both cases, the player did something that was completely unacceptable. In Shea's case, he did several things. Which is what makes it hard for me to single out Gibby and demand that he be fired.
That doesn't excuse his actions at all, though. What did he say to Lilly on his way to the mound? What did he do when he went into the tunnel? What exactly transpired behind the scenes with Hillenbrand?
If Gibbons has an anger management problem, and if he is stupid enough to confront people physically whenever there is disagreement, and if he has lost the room, then yes, he should be fired immediately. I don't know that these things have been established yet. We'll see how events play out over the next few days and the rest of the season. At this point it does not look good for Gibbons' ability to react to a crisis. But in both cases the crisis was caused by the player.
