I'm sure the majority of you have seen that Reyes recently signed a 4 year $23mil (approx) contract and that Wright signed a 6 year $55mil contract just last night.
Do you think that this solidifies this Mets team for years to come, especially since they'll have Carlos Beltran manning CF?
I personally am a huge fan of these two players. I think they are going to help the Mets put together their own string of NL East division championships, not the Braves 14 straight, but certainly between 3-5 straight.
What do you think?

I like the Mets way more than the Yankees. Probably because they haven't been successful in the past with their attempts to buy a championship.
I like the signings. Now they only have to worry about the right side of the infield. They have Delgado now, but they look weak at second with Valentin as their primary second baseman. I think Minaya should have addressed that at some point after trading away Matsui. And I don't think Alfonso qualifies.

I think Valetin has been a solid addition there. Of course he's not the long term solution, but he's certainly filled the gap. Maybe we can convince them that Russ Adams is good. Hell they picked up Chris Woodward.

Yeah, yeah...Valentin is good enough to allow them to make a run this year, but as you said he's not a long term solution. Isn't he one of those guys that usually lead the league in strikeouts? Or am I thinking of a different guy?
How long is Delgado signed for? Two more years?
BTW...I have a hard time bashing Chris Woodward. I met him and his wife through my nephew when he worked security for the Jays at SkyDome. He's a really nice guy and so is his wife.

Funny you mention that because I had 'In the Action' seats a few years ago, and Chris Woodward was one of the few Jays I saw take the time to interact with some of the kids around the dugout. Seemed like a good guy.

These moves are designed to bypass the arbitration process and have a fixed rate for two of their best young players moving forward. It might of been too early with Reyes, but as a short-stop, he should be good enough to warrant the extension even if this year is a bit of a fluke (though at age 23, he may actually get better). David Wright, on the other hand, is a superstar already. A 23-year old Scott Rolen without the injury problems. Pretty darn good.
The key with the Mets is what happens when Pedro and Glavine are done. I guess Pelfrey can take over, but young pitching is never a guarantee. They'll need to find a way to acquire a young ace. Dontrelle Willis would be perfect for them.

As a Mets fan (and this actually goes for all the teams I like, too) I try not to count my chickens before they hatch when it comes to good signings and good play because it seems that whenever things are looking up...something goes wrong. Kind of pessimistic, I know...but I can't help it.
However, I'm very happy with who the Mets have and who they've locked up. And I couldn't be more proud of the way they are playing. I just hope that they continue to do well and that it's not just a one year thing.

I'm not bashing Chris Woodward the person. I'm bashing Chris Woodward the player. He was the one we kept to be our SS, with all the guys we had, and could still have, we chose Chris Woodward. I think my contempt is warrented.

For what he is, I was thrilled with Chris Woodward's work off the bench last season. This year, not so much, but I suppose you can't set standards to high with him.
As for his character, certainly one of the classiest in the game today.

I am very happy that the Mets signed Jose Reyes and David Wright long term. Both players deserve these contracts and now the Mets do not have much to worry about when it comes to the left side of their infield.

Wright is one of the best young players that I have ever seen. He's definitely up there in the class of a Miguel Cabrera in terms of young players who immediately stepped in and made an all-star impact. He'll be the best at his position for years to come, so the Mets did well to get him and Reyes inked to long-term deals.
What is there to say about Reyes? He's fast, phenomenal defensively, and -- despite his lack of patience at the plate and limited power -- still manages to get a lot of hits, get on base, and create havoc on the base-paths when he gets on there. Jose's easily one of the most exciting and enjoyable players to watch in the National League.

David Wright might eventually be the all-time greatest Mets 3B.
