Cincinnati Reds acquire right-hander Ryan Franklin from PhilliesCINCINNATI (AP) -- The Reds shuffled their bullpen again Monday by acquiring right-hander Ryan Franklin from the Philadelphia Phillies for cash and a player to be named.
Franklin, 33, was 1-5 with Philadelphia with a 4.58 ERA in 46 relief appearances.
The Reds said they planned to make a corresponding roster move Monday night before the start of a four-game series with the NL Central-leading St. Louis Cardinals. Franklin is expected to be in uniform.

They are really trying to solidify that shaky bullpen. I'm not sure that they've got the quality of arms that they needed, but they've certainly got numerous options now should something fail.

The latest news now is that Gary Majewski may have in fact been damaged goods before the trade with Washington. Healthy or not, it certainly doesn't make it a good trade on Cincinnati's part.

If he was damage goods can Cincy do anything to get compensation for that. Or is it just tough cookies that they didn't thoroughly check him out?

I never really knew how that worked to be honest. Anyone have any history of this occurring in the past?

The Jays acquired Mike Sirotka from the Chicago White Sox following the 2000 season in exchange for David Wells. It turns out that our medical staff did a horrendously poor job of checking Sirotka out since they didn't notice the massive tear in his pitching shoulder. He has not pitched an inning in the majors since his 15-win campaign in the 2000 regular season with the Sox. Wells is still pitching and has over 200 career wins.
The team went to MLB and tried to get the deal rescinded, but Bud Selig stepped in and allowed the trade to stand claiming "cavaet emptor" (buyer beware, in Latin).

So pretty much nothing will come of it then, correct?

Good move by picking up Ryan Franklin.
