More surprised that I'm the first to post here, but just wondering what people thought of their chances this season.

Very good, but cetainly not a lock. I can't see the Blue Jays, A's or Angels making up their leads in the wildcard right now. One of those west teams will in the division, leaving three teams competiting for one wildcard spot. The Chicago White Sox are currently leading by a half game over the Minnesota Twins, and two games over the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox are therefore just shy of the wildcard, and just three games shy of the division. When you have two different playoff spots you can take, and only three other teams in your neighborhood, you have to like your chances, but more importantly, you have to keep winning.

IMO, Red Sox will HAVE to win their division to go to the playoffs. Either Detroit or ChiSox will be punching the wild card ticket.

I can see the Red Sox making the Playoffs by winning their divison or getting in through the Wildcard. Both seem very plausible to me.

I would think that they will miss the playoffs, Chicago will probably get the wildcard and the Yankees the division but as kfkorn said, either could go to the Red Sox

Getting swept in a five game series, at home, to the Yankees was not a good way to stay in the race.
