Which car companies have expensive repair rates? I've heard that, despite how beautiful they are, BMW's are super-expensive to repair. Also, which cars usually need more repairs than others? I've read that VW's usually need a lot of maintenence, while Honda's "run forever".

My mom just got rid of her BMW and I know for a fact they are super expensive once they get out of warranty at the dealers. They wanted to charge her something like $1200 to change a set of breaks. I know that's not the only thing she has had problems with but I forget the others. The car itself was beautiful but expensive as hell to repair.
Funny thing is, she traded it in for a Honda believe it or not. My sister and brother-in-law swear by them as far as reliablilty go.

Toyotas run forever too... even my 1994 Geo, which is a Chevy more or less made by Toyota, is still running reasonably well - or it will as soon as I remember to replace the friggin battery.
I've heard horror stories about getting repair work done on BMWs and Minicoopers.

If it's brand new and assuming you're buying an arseload of warranty, get whatever you want.
If it's used go domestic. While some imports may be more reliable, if they do go, the parts will be much more expensive. You might have to do a bit more preventative maintenance on a domestic, but the parts are MUCH cheaper.

Porsche is damn expensive. Don't ever hit a Porsche. Also, don't do dealership repairs unless it's in your warranty. My dealership charges 80$/hour (Volkswagen) so I just go to a garage where I know the mechanics.

In general:
- if it's German it's gonna cost big jack for even routine maintenence and only God can help you if the electronic start to go. - if it's Italian it's gonna NEED a lot of expensive maintenence because it's gonna have a lot of exotic broken parts. - if it's French or English - ummm, you're probably better off without it. - if it's Japanese it's going to be relatively expensive for routine maintenence but will need less in terms of major repairs in the normal lifetime mileage range - if it's American you just never know.

Also, don't do dealership repairs unless it's in your warranty. Also, God help you if you screw up and hit a Rolls Royce. That shiny grille with the pretty lady on it? That bad boy will cost you upwards of $10,000 to replace ... that's right, it's milled from a solid block of stainless steel and they're really proud of them. Really proud.

I'm thinking I'll go with a Honda.......I've been leaning on that, a BMW or a Volvo.

They still make cars in England? I had no idea!

They're Sweedish. I've never had one, but people who have them love them.

5 cylinder engines always sound like there's a misfire happening, but that's me. Am I right in assuming these are off a lease or liquidation?
